RE: ARES Net Message – April 8, 2017

Thank you for a job well done on your DEC/SEC monthly reports for their timely reporting. I know it’s hard to get all the information from the all the events but you proved once again it can be done with great detail. I know we have a learning curve on the new reports but I want to stress that your Section Staff is here to support your efforts.

April is National Severe Weather Awareness Month, and plans are in place for a surprise “Micro-Drill” during one of the Saturday Morning nets. On that day’s net, we will ask all counties to do an immediate, non-advertised emergency net call-up on your on local vhf/uhf repeater system. No telephone or text messaging other than the repeater is to be used to get check-ins. This drill will only last 15 minutes. Please keep a count of the total number of stations that check in to this small drill of our emergency networks on FM/UHF. Again this will be a drill only of stations available or monitoring DURING that time frame.

The WPA ARES Voice Net will remain in operation during this time to take your activation counts until 11:00 am. If you are unable to make contact via the HF net, please pass your county’s check-in count by ARRL Radiogram or ICS-213 to your DEC who will relay them all to me. South 2 Stations, please send your reports directly to me.
