Announcing: 2025 WPA Spring SET - April 5

Let’s start planning for the WPA Spring Simulated Emergency Test scheduled for Saturday, April 5th. The focus this year is on providing communications support for a wide-scale evacuation event, like floods, tornados, hazmat accidents or wildfires.

The primary goal of the 2025 WPA Spring SET is for ARES units and radio clubs to set up stations and establish amateur radio communications capability at remote shelter sites or facilities and contact each other field day style. For the SET we will not generally be operating at home, already-established local EMA facilities and club stations.

A further goal of this activity will be for each county to contact adjoining counties directly using amateur radio only, without any other infrastructure such as the electrical power grid, land line or cellular telephone and commercial data services.

An additional goal is to practice relaying Radiogram and ICS-213 formatted voice and digital traffic, with the final goal being for each county to originate a message to be passed exclusively by amateur radio to the special target station announced at the beginning of the exercise.
